The Miracle of Zamzam Water: Blessings & guidance for Bangladeshi pilgrims
From the scorching desert of Arabia to the thirsty pilgrims who drink it centuries later, Zamzam carries a profound story of faith, mercy, and divine provision. Its tale begins with Hajar (peace be upon her), the beloved wife of Prophet
Ibrahim (AS), and her infant son Ismail (AS).
When you drink Zamzam, it feels different, like peace settling inside. You realize faith and patience really do bring goodness when Allah wants. For many from Bangladesh, getting that moment in Makkah is more than a dream; it’s a gift
straight from the heart.
If you’re planning your Hajj or Umrah, Hijaz Hajj Umrah Ltd. can guide you all the way — from travel to rituals — so you can experience this sacred water with peace of heart and
mind.
The Zamzam Water: It began in a place where there was nothing. Just sand and heat. Hajar (RA) stood there with her baby, not knowing what would happen next. Then, from the dry ground, Allah made water flow. That water is still here.
Still pure. A reminder that Allah never leaves the ones who believe in Him.
01
Leaving Hajar and Ismail in the desert
Allah commanded Prophet Ibrahim (AS) to leave Hajar and little Ismail in the empty valley of Makkah. There was almost nothing there — just a bit of water, a little food, and endless sand all around. Hajar looked at him, confused and
worried, and asked, “Where are you leaving us?” Ibrahim (AS) didn’t say much, only that he was leaving them in Allah’s care — the One who never forgets His servants.
02
The thirst and the search
Hajar frantically searched for water as the few supplies dried. She ran between the hills of Safa and Marwah seven times, hoping for a sign. This act later became part of the Saʿee ritual in Hajj and Umrah.
03
The divine Miracle
When her hope was fading, the angel Jibril (Gabriel) appeared and struck the ground. Water sprang forth. That spring is known today as the Zamzam Well. Some narrations say Ismail (AS) scraped the earth with his heel, or Jibril
dug with his wing.
The name “Zamzam” is sometimes said to come from Hajar’s exclamation “Zom! Zom!” (“Stop! Stop!”) as the water flowed unchecked.
04
The well’s disappearance & rediscovery
Over time, the well became buried, and its location was lost. Centuries later, ʿAbdul Muṭṭalib, grandfather of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), had a dream and dug, rediscovering Zamzam. That rediscovery revived the well
and restored its access for pilgrims.
Spiritual virtues and Hadith teachings
Zamzam is more than water; it’s a spiritual treasure. Many authentic Hadiths speak about its miracles and proper usage.
01
Zamzam Water fulfills intentions
The Prophet ﷺ said:
“مَاءُ زَمْزَمَ لِمَا شُرِبَ لَهُ”.
“Zamzam water is for whatever purpose it is drunk.” (Sunan Ibn Mājah, Hadith 3062).
This Hadith shows that the reward and benefit of Zamzam depend on one’s intention. Whether you seek healing, knowledge, strength, or spiritual closeness to Allah — drink with faith, and Allah will bless it.
02
Hope for healing and blessings
In Fiqh-us-Sunnah (5:81), it is mentioned: “A person drinking Zamzam water should intend and hope for healing, blessings, and whatever is best for him in this life and in the hereafter. The Prophet (peace be upon him)
said, "The water of Zamzam is (good) for whatever it is intended.”
03
Abu Dharr (رضي الله عنه) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said: “إِنَّهَا مُبَارَكَةٌ، إِنَّهَا طَعَامُ طُعْمٍ”.
“The water of Zamzam is a blessing, and it is food that satisfies.”
In another narration: “وَشِفَاءُ سُقْمٍ” and a cure for the sick. (Sahih Muslim).
Zamzam is not ordinary water. It is a blessing from Allah — a water that gives strength to the body and peace to the soul. In every sip, there is both food and healing.
04
The Prophet ﷺ used Zamzam for healing
The Messenger of Allah ﷺ would use Zamzam water for healing, reciting prayers and supplications over it. It was part of his Sunnah to rely on Allah’s blessings in natural means, especially in what Allah Himself made
sacred.
“The best water on the face of the earth is the water of Zamzam; in it is food for nourishment and healing for illness.” (Reported by al-Ṭabarānī).
This emphasizes that no other water equals Zamzam in purity, blessing, or spiritual benefit.
06
The Prophet’s heart was washed with Zamzam
There is a beautiful story from the early life of our Prophet ﷺ. The angels came to him during his childhood, opened his chest and washed his pure heart with Zamzam water. Then they filled it with wisdom (ḥikmah) and faith (iman),
a sign of the purity and greatness Allah had chosen for him.
“O Allah, make it for us beneficial knowledge, abundant provision, and healing from every disease.”
Physical and practical aspects
Zamzam’s story goes back thousands of years, yet it still flows the same way today—a clear sign of Allah’s mercy. Every season, millions drink from it, and the water remains pure and steady, just as it has always been. Below
are a few simple facts about its place and how it’s cared for:
The well of Zamzam is located within Masjid al-Haram, about 20 meters east of the Kaaba.
Over time, it was renovated and managed carefully. Water is drawn and distributed using pumps and purification systems.
It is one of the few groundwater sources in the area that has never dried.
Each day, Zamzam water is cooled, bottled, and given free to pilgrims, always kept pure and clean.
Its flow never fades, and its sweet, fresh taste feels unlike any other water on earth.
Lessons and reflections for pilgrims from Bangladesh (and beyond)
When you think about Zamzam, it’s not just about water coming out of the ground. It’s about faith that never gives up. For people from Bangladesh who travel so far for Hajj or Umrah, this story feels close to the heart — a reminder
that Allah never leaves anyone who truly trusts Him.
Faith in Allah’s help: Hajar (RA) was all alone. No water. No shade. Still, she didn’t lose hope. She knew Allah would not forget her. That trust is what we need to hold on to.
Set your intention (Niyyah): Before drinking Zamzam, think for a moment. What do you want? Maybe peace, maybe shifa, maybe strength. Drink it with belief in your heart.
Treat it with care: Say Bismillah first. Take a few sips, not too fast. Every drop is blessed, so don’t waste it.
Remember her steps: When you walk between Safa and Marwah, try to feel what she felt. A mother looking for water, running with hope. That’s real faith.
Bring it home with love: Many people from Bangladesh carry Zamzam back for their families. When you share it, it feels like sharing a bit of Makkah—a bit of dua from that holy place.
